About Roz

Thank you for visiting my blog!  I’m grateful that you found this page because the information contained here can truly change your life if you apply it to your business every day.  So here is a little about me and how I ended up where I am today.

The Beginning:

In the summer of 2006 I had just graduated Dental Hygiene school, a grueling 3 years but SO worth it.  As a Dental Hygienst I can make a serious income for working “normal” hours, Monday – Thursday, 8am – 5pm.  For those of you who have your own home business you know why I put “normal” in quotation marks :).  No nights, no weekends.  It was going to be perfect!  My husband and I have been married 4 years at that point and were ready to finally bring in more income.  Well, the inevitable happened…I got pregnant.  Right after graduating college.  Even though I wanted kids eventually, I wanted to work a few years and save up and possibly move into a bigger house.  So when I found out, although I was excited, I was disappointed for a few reasons, a few selfish reasons.  I hadn’t even worked one day as a professional in my field yet.  I had only gone on a few interviews but hadn’t yet decided where to start working.  I knew that going on interviews was pretty much useless now because in all fairness to the Dentist I wouldn’t be the best candidate to hire since I would at least need to take over a month off in 9 months (if not sooner).  So I just stated subbing, filling in where other hygienists would get sick and need time off or they would go on vacation.  I found a job where I worked every Friday filling in for someone who just had their baby.  So here I was, with a college degree that I can’t use to the full working one day a week.  Unfortuantely I did not know ANYTHING about working from home at that time so I just did my one day a week.

So My Search Began:

While I was pregnant I figured that I probably wouldn’t want to go back to work right away, and with no job to go back to it was an easy decision to stay at home.  Sure my hubby and I would do without a lot of things but we managed.  I thought for sure I’d want to go back to work when my daughter was 6 months old.  Well that time came around and that was the LAST thing on my mind.  I did not want to go back to work!  So I then began my search to see what I could do from home.  Here is where my work from home story gets intersting…

I found a great company that allowed me to work from home selling thier baby slings.  They were high end, very nice, and sold only in high end baby boutiques.  They are very trendy and by far the cutest ones out there.  They are also the best in quality in my opinion so I had no problem selling them!  I would walk into a baby boutique (there are about 10 boutique stores in my hometown) with my daughter in the sling happy and smiling and the owners were sold!  I went from just one store that was given to me when I started to just over 50 stores who had these slings!  I thought this was the place to be, because once I did the work to get the stores I would get an easy commission for when they reorder.  Just take 5 minutes to put in their reorder and get a nice big commission.  I even had a store in Puerto Rico who would order $3000 of slings wholesale which was a nice commission for me!

But Then The Economy Tanked…BIG TIME!:

But then the economy went downhill.  Downhill FAST!  I called my stores and tried to get them to reorder and they said:  “Roz, we love your slings, the customer loves your slings, but with this economy people are just not buying something they don’t NEED.”  This happened with store after store.  People were not coming in to buy ANYTHING.  Plus with what I was selling people can find something similar cheaper at Wal-Mart or Target.  Sure it wasn’t as high quality, didn’t have as high of safety ratings, weren’t nearly as cool looking…but they are a good option for those on a budget.  Well, my commissions went out the door, and my income just tanked!  So I found myself looking for something again, but this time I learned my lesson and started searching for something that people NEED, vs. something that they want or could get cheaper at a superstore.

While I was at a trade show for my first company I found a representative for a company who I took their whole food supplements while I was pregnant.  It was my only vitamin that I took and I had one of the best pregnancies out there.  No morning sickness or anything like that.  So I started to think, well I have a personal testimony with this…AND they have benefits to the gums and overall health so maybe I could be a rep for this product!  (Totally forgetting that I need a service based business with something people need).  So to cover my bases I called a good friend who has been in the work at home field for about 10 years now.  She was successful with her super fruit product.  But she started to tell me about the same thing happening to her that happened to me.  When the economy started going downhill so did her commissions and residual income!  She sold a product that actually “fixed her”.  She had chronic fatigue and couldn’t barely get out of bed and didn’t go out of her house because the pain was so bad.  This superfruit juice basically cured that and so she certainly had something to talk to people about.  She built up a huge organization of customers and distributors.  STILL, with this economy and with a product that actually made people feel better her commissions went down the drain with the economy!

So she told me about this, basically reaffirming what I had thought.  So she began to tell me about a new home business opportunity that she found that she believed was great.  It had to do with the deregulation of electiricity.  So you help people switch their electricity providers, much like you can choose which home phone company to go with.  It’s not deregulated in all states yet, but EVERYONE has electricity so I thought this was a GOLD MINE!  I signed up, and 4 months later I had 2 customers.  Wah Woh big time!  I had realized that I had absolutely NO passion for this.  Sure I was helping people save money on their electricity bills but I just had no passion for it.

I Finally Found My Passion:

While placing ads online for my electricity business I kept seeing ads for the company I’m with now.  And you know, they just kept eating at me!  But I was stubborn, but really determined to make the electricity business work.  Especially since I spent $430 to start this business.  I wanted to prove to my husband that I can do this!  But man, those ads just kept talking to me and soon enough I KNEW this was the company with service for me.  So I cancelled the electricity business (of course still good friends with the girl that signed me up, she knew that I didn’t have the passion for that business).

I learned a lot with this experiance, and through this search I learned what to look for, what to do, and the steps to take to find MY perfect work at home business.  So I want to share this information with you!  For updates via email of any new posts I share please include your first name and email below.  You will also get FREE access to my 4 Day Series “Conquer Prospecting with Personality Colors”.  This course will increase your prospecting efforts and closing ratios by understanding WHO you are talking to!
